Weekend of cold, but fun!

Yeah, fall has arrived, especially fall temperatures. But I didn't let it keep me from getting outside.

Yesterday I did the abreviated version of The Ride for the Donuts, riding only 40 miles this time.

I ate 4 this time :)

After the 40 miler, I needed to get into a quick 3 mile run. Quick it was! Dropped a 3 miler in 22:35 for a 7:32 pace. I felt Pure.Awsome. after that run.

But I wasn't done yet with the running for the weekend.

This morning I headed up with my super running buddy, Belden, to the Croton Aqueduct Trailway at the Croton Gorge Dam. Regina @ Chiu on this posted about this place last week. Since it is nearby for me I figured I should give it a try.

WHY HAS EVERYONE BEEN KEEPING THIS SECRET FROM ME?

haha!

This is not only a SUPER incredible place, but also there is a trail here that I could run all the way down to NYC and back! This also makes three good running trails available to me in my area.

To get from the parking lot to the top of the dam, it is a .9 mile switch back uphill run. Talk about super hill climbing intervals! The run down makes you feel like an animal cuz you can haul @$$ down it.

After 8 miles, including two switchback climbs, I called it a day.

Since it was a such a beautiful (but cold) morning, I figured I should take some pictures of this place with my crappy cellphone camera. Enjoy! The light was incredible this morning!

  1. That's it! I can't take it any more! I'm going to find a place to bike to today that has donuts :)

Great ride and place to run. It would be hard to stop taking pictures and keep moving with scenery like that.

  5. Ok, jealous of the donuts and jealous of the aqueduct! I've been wanting to run there for a couple years! Looks like another thing we should plan. The Cipro ban is over, I'm starting back up tomorrow!

  6. This is a great place to run. This is where the Westchester 70.3 toughman I did took place and the run was awesome.

  7. Yeah! you made it up there. I was there on Saturday (post to follow). That hill up to the top is something. I also wanted to check it out cuz I am considering the Westchester Toughman next year.

I ended up running from the Croton Harmen Sta. to the damn then down the trail to Ossining, just under 9 miles. It was a gorgeous day for it! The best part was finding a farmers market right at the end of my run for hot cider and donuts for the train ride back to the city, yummy!!

  11. wow that looks gorgeous!!! is that "Croton-on-Hudson"?? I have a friend that is from there.. always thought that was a weird name for a town. there are sooo many places in "downstate NY" that are sooo pretty - like the Gunks, and West Point!

  16. Last weekend I switched from the road bike to my hybrid and went for a ride on the Aqueduct, starting from the dam. It was beautiful.

I did have to push my bike up one short but very steep hill. It is a great place for trail running, mostly flat too. I can tell you how to get to the eastern end by car if you don't want to park down at the bottom, but it sounds like you are enjoying running up that hill! Its also a great place to go sledding.

  17. All 3x per month I get out and ride I have the intention of doing a short run after... By the time I get home I can never seem to make myself follow through.
