"Taper Crazy"....definitions needed! (reward for best answer!)

Ok, I need some help from YOU! I am sure most of us have gone "Taper Crazy." We all know how it feels, but let's say that some non-endurance-racing person asks you, "What does going Taper Crazy mean?" You would respond with "Well, going Taper Crazy is/means____________"

So fill in the blank by leaving me a comment. I'll pick the best answer (make it witty, funny and cool!) and I''ll reward you with your choice of one of two prizes:

#1 Gelrilla Grip Pro Elite Gel holder for your bike with one Paradise Beach Lava Gel.

#2 5 Larabars, with flavors Cherry Pie, Chocolate Coconut Chew, Pecan Pie, Peanut Butter Cookie and Apple Pie.

So an example comment would be:

"Going Taper Crazy is/means _______________. I would like to win the Larabars. Thanks!"

With 8 days before Mooseman 70.3, I have yet to hit the critical "Taper Crazy" mode. I had my last long ride, a 40 miler this morning. It was a great ride and my legs feel FAST, just not rested. Mentally, I am feeling fresh still. The race director posted that Newfound Lake is up to 66 degrees! That's bath tub warm compared to the frigid 58 degree temps from the past two years. That right there is a huge relief knowing that I can ditch the neoprene cap.

So leave me a comment with a witty, funny, and cool definition; I'll leave this open for submissions for about a week. *Shameless Plug* Feel free to spread the word. The more submissions the better!

  1. Going Taper Crazy means not know what to do with yourself with all this extra time! All of a sudden you have 2 or 3 hours every day to yourself.

And yes, i would like to win the Larabars. Thank you

  2. Here is how I would describe "taper crazy" to someone that asked me (especially if the taper had me in the annoyed stage!):

"Do you remember the movie The Untouchables in which Robert DeNiro played Al Capone? Do you remember the scene when all the mobsters were sitting around a table after Elliot Ness had ruffled some feathers and one of them had said something stupid to DeNiro/Capone? DeNiro/Capone was walking around said table holding a Louisville Slugger and we all knew he was going to bash the stupid guy in the head and everyone at the table knew he was going to bash the guy in the head even the stupid guy knew it was coming ... DeNiro/Capone walked and talked very deliberately for what seemed like a long time and the tension just keep building and building and building and building until BAM ... he violently bashed the guy in the head with the bat. Well, that Tension is the same feeling we get from the Taper, like a snake coiled up and ready to strike, and if timed perfectly we will explode on Race Day just like the maple bat exploded the stupid guys head all over the table. BUT if not timed correctly we might explode on the next idiot that asks us what taper crazy means! Capiche?" ... I'd like that little GU clip thing ... thank you very much!

  3. Taper crazy is where you get to feel like a big, fat, lazy ass slug for a week, maybe 2 depending on race distance. I really dig that gel holder!

  5. +1 for Jeff :)

Taper Crazy is a week or two during which I find myself with tons of extra free time. Rather than rest during that free time, I find myself doing projects around the house that generally cause me to use different muscles than I do training. So, for the entire week, my body aches beyond belief adding to the mental anguish I am feeling from not being able to relieve my stress in the pool, on the bike, or in my Brooks.

No need to enter me in the drawing. I already won a SwiCycloRun contest. Not fair to hog all the prizes. :)

PS: I ended up just removing the BuckeyeOutdoors widget. It worked for a while, but then started redirecting my blog to Register.Com.

  6. Going taper crazy means that you better leave mama alone because she is most likely going to be crabby/insert the B word here, and you will not want to mess with her!

I would love to win the Larabars:) The chocolate coconut chew sounds heavenly!

    Have a good on Jon!

  7. bought 6 larabars at the groc store tonight!

Taper Crazy was described quite well in Caratunk Girl blog - the link to the sneaky hate spiral:

Little frustrations happen quickly, a red light is telling me I HATE YOU. Many voices come with taper time.

    have a great taper week!

  8. Mmmmm... Lara Bars!!! :)

Going Taper Crazy is the time between your hardest training weeks and your race when you totally doubt everything that you've done leading up to the race, you feel fat and lazy, you get bored easily, you eat a lot, you question your reasoning for thinking you can do a race, you feel like you'll have to start all over and that you'll never be able to race. But you do. And you kick ass. And you forget about the taper tantrums until the next race. :)

    Hang in there!

  9. going taper crazy means, don't leave your toys on the floor, don't leave dirty dishes in the sink, don't leave the toilet seat up and don't mess with my schedule! GU holder please?

  10. I am way behind in my reading, dont know if you already picked someone. but doesnt it mean "I enjoy sharing quiet moments together."
Really means: It's taper time. Just back off because I am strategizing and in a pissy mood because I am worried about my "A" race and can't workout.
