I'm Thankfull For.........YOU!

Hope everyone had a GREAT Thanksgiving!

This is the time of year when the big transition from one season shifts to the next. Everyone is wrapping up their fall marathons, some of us are kicking injuries, and our minds are already scrambling for "next year!" We want to continue to train, but at the same time we just want to think about training hard while instead eating and drinking even harder. Hey! Most of you just ran a 5K or 5M Turkey Trot Marathon ;)

But before I continue to look into my crystal ball of 2012, I first want to look back at this season and be thankful for what occurred in 2011.

Mostly, I am thankful for YOU! I have been blogging for over 4 years now and I have connected and met MORE fellow triathlon and runner bloggers in the past 11 months than I have in the past 4 years COMBINED. AND! Its been wonderful :)

You read someone's blog, stalk follow them, then find them on twitter, then you become facebook friends, then somehow you wind up at the same race and meeting in person! What went from a friendly "Nice job! Congrats on that PR! Well deserved! You F______ rock!" comment suddenly turns into a post race "Nice job! Congrats on that PR! Well deserved! You F______ rock!"  handshake or hug and a life long friendship has been formed.

I am thankful for the twitter battles between Texas and everyone else.

I am thankful that we actually formed a League of Extraordinary Tri Geeks.

I am thankful that we then matched everyone up as Star Wars characters

I am thankful that we can all be total nerds and appreciate the elbow jabbing we give each other

I am thankful that a LOT of us did our first Ironman all in the same year and selflessly shared our mistakes and successes with each other. (hint: bring pepto and tums pills with you on the run)

I am thankful that EVERYONE had a great season and is continuing upwards and onwards next season

I am thankful that I am about to invade Canada next season

I am thankful that I can bake one thing without screwing it up. (note: I can make amazing Filet Mignon, but ask me to bake a pie? HA! Ur funny!)

I am thankful to have a coach that not only pushes me, but understands that Triathlon should NOT rule your life. I still can't believe I swam, biked, and ran that much that one weekend....

I am thankful for a new group of friends

Finally, I am thankful for the support of family and friends and my dog, Aachen

What are you thankful for this holiday season?

Happy Chrismahanakwanza-festivus!

  1. I have an amazing secret steak marinade that I haven't used since I stopped eating red meat. Perhaps I share it with you.

  2. That dog is adorable! So is this post.

  3. Yeah so I definitely get the Tums thing for an IM after reading your race report and I'm very happy to have learned that from you. It will be useful for when I DON'T do an Ironman.

  4. Hahah... I seriously had a legit argument with someone who was trying to convince me there was such thing as a 10K marathon. I tried to explain to him that 10K = 10 kilometers, and a marathon is actually a little more than 42 kilometers.

He countered back to "inform" me that there are actually such things as half marathons and quarter marathons and !!!!!

I have no problem admitting when I'm wrong bro, but there is no 10K marathon.

THANKFUL FOR: naps on the couch with grandpa, finally meeting the new baby in the family, finally having a surgery date set, health insurance, and a comfy warm bed.

  5. Festivus for the rest of us. One of the best Seinfeld episodes ever.

2011 has been amazing and I could just write ditto on this comment to all your points. The best part is that the best is yet to come. As you are all veterans of the IM distance now you will embark on new training methods and cycles and see how that gets put into practice and it will be amazing to watch and cheer in person and from cyber-world.

  6. So this was your "Thankful" post, when do we get your "Airing of Grievances" post??

Can I just say that I 100% agree with this post? I can't wait to extend my blogger-to-real life friendships in 2012.

  7. Aww, love this post. Especially the Festivus part.

I can teach you to bake a pie if you teach me to make a filet.

Meeting up with bloggers has been the best part of my year. Seriously. You are the FIRST blogger I ever met?? Crazy right? Can't wait to invade Canada with you!! We get to do the preview even!

  8. Great post Jon and everything you said is so true. I love you guys (said with shaky voice and sniffles)!

IronBob was the first blogger I meet, he is a good dude! You were the 2nd though! That was an awesome weekend too - one of the highlights to 2011!

2012 is going to be excellent - IM Mont-Tremblant is shaping up to be beyond EPIC.

  9. Great thoughts, Jon. I'm not the athlete that you are, but even I feel that my fitness endeavors are selfish at the root--we train and train and train, mostly just to improve ourselves. It's important to realize that we are also affecting others in a positive way by our lifestyle and through our friendships. Glad to read your blog!

  10. I'm thankful for you too. It's nice to have friends I've never really met. Maybe one day...

  11. GOod things to be thankful for indeed. I'm also thankful for the blogworld. Most of the time it's better than my "real world"... :) Hope you had a great Turkey weekend!

  12. Freaking awesome post, you F______ ROCK!!!!

Here is to a great 2011 and a better 2012

  13. Love this post! Imaginary blog friends are the best :)

  14. Great post! I am very thankful for your pumpkin cookies. And Internet friends!

  15. your welcome!
    thank you!

    ...and lol@ Jeff

  16. This is a great post! :)

I love that so many of us have gone from the "creepy internet friend" stage to the "I'd call/email/text you if I needed something" kind of friend! :)

What a great year 2011 was - can't wait to see what shenanigans we can all cause in 2012!

  17. i'm thankful for those turkey trot marathons. i can't wait to do my own 5k marathon next year if/when i make my 'comeback'!

  18. Imaginary blog friends who come to life at races definitely are the best! :)

Don't be shy! Leave me a comment!
